Ariellum Theatre, New Gallery to open on Idle Rogue this weekend

Live Entertainment mavericks Idle Rogue continue their juggernaut presence in the Second Life environment, this weekend opening a newly built theatre, gallery and club venue on the sim, while the infamous Guerilla Burlesque Revue resumes performances from this Friday.

Built by Chryblnd Scribe and Chewie Quixote, the new theatre is designed to be a lighter and brighter space, while still maintaining the originality for which Idle Rogues are so well known. The theatre has been named The Ariellum:

'Named for the magical sprite of Shakespere's The Tempest, the Ariellum is a theater that, like it's name sake, combines the finest virtues of humanity with it's own unquenchable desire for freedom and light.  An alchemy of air and magic, the Ariellum serves as a true servant who serves the highest goal of all- Art.'
(Thanks to Matt Baldoni for this contribution, Matt, please feel free to come and write copy for me any time!)

The redesigned building offers a more egalitatrian seating arrangement - seats are still reserved for the fee-paying Guerilla Burlesque Exclusive fan group, but we have set the seating out in tiers that allow you to sit with your friends who may not be fan club members, which many exclusive fans felt was important. You like to bring new friends to meet us, and we like them to feel welcome when they get here, so we hope the new arrangement suits everyone.

Our seating is now laid out so that every seat is within chat range of the stage; this is for both the audience's viewing comfort, as it should make it easier for you to see fully rezzed sets and dancers, with animations correctly synchronised and additionally, it allows the dancers to hear your comments and especially applause, which is something they rather enjoy.

Eventually it is intended that we will configure a kind of "holodeck" arrangement inside the theatre, allowing us to set up different seating and staging configurations and a wider range for performances and events.

Guerilla Burlesque's Revue resumes performances this Friday (May 13th) at 7pm and at Midnight, presenting two different shows for your enjoyment. We have new dancers on the schedule this month, as well as almost all of your old favourites, and we have some terrific event performances in the works, including a long-awaited reprise performance of Mayfair, the Dance Entertainment Production based on Anne Rice's novel The Witching Hour.

We're also in production for Full Metal Corset, and industrial/metal burlesque event, and will be performing at the delightful Indie Teepee festival, along with our annual pilgrimage to Burn2. And there's more, but we've already said to much shhhh

Commencing Saturday night (May 14th) we are delighted to welcome the contribution of Ed Aulder to the Idle Rogue family. Ed will curate a small art collection for the new Rogues Gallery portico on the eastern side of the theatre, and his opening exhibition features works from Bianca Xavorin and Milly Sharple. With sponsorship from Franney and Chry, we're planning a small but inclusive party to celebrate the new venue, which we hope will provide a thought provoking interlude for those who appreciate such things. Blues icon JavaJoe MacIntyre will perform at 7pm and the event is open to all. It's also an unofficial birthday party for Ed, so please do come along and wish him well!

Of course the sim continues to provide a respectable front for the shenanigans at After Dark, one of Second Life's premier live music venues run by the unfailingly charming Meegan Danitz and her equally alluring crew, be sure to stay in touch with their calendar and blog for events four night each week.

We're hosting a birthday party for chry on May 21st, it's a Very Big Birthday so you can expect a great lineup of music and some fun and games from the Rogues.

And don't forget to check out the Metaharpers stage on the sim, where you can rez stages from some of Second Life's best dancers and click to make yourself the star of the show!

It's our 7th Birthday!

On November 6th, 2008, the Idle Rogue group was established to secure lease of a parcel on mainland Yeonghuengdo and provide a hangout for builders and creatives with an alternative stance. By February 2009 we were hosting our own major events and had become a recognised force in virtual worlds entertainment. In 2012 we moved to our own sim and, operating as Idle Rogue Productions, we formed Guerilla Burlesque (SL).
Across the years, Idle Rogue has hosted the best musicians performing in Second Life. We have produced music and dance entertainment events, live concerts and themed parties. We strive, at all times, to provide the kind of entertainment we would, ourselves enjoy. And so it is that every Idle Rogue is integral to the success of Idle Rogue.
I would personally like to thank every Rogue who has dwelt with us, and every traveller who saw what we were doing and wanted to spend a little time with us. Without you, we could not have grown into the force we are today. You shape us by the way you interact with us.
It is my great pleasure to announce that we will return to running live music in the very early hours of Friday mornings, as we did for many years, and in addition to the smokey pleasures of our stablemates at After Dark SL
So it's our birthday. And we have some great live music lined up. Join us at The Falls Stage on Friday night to celebrate with us!
At 1am - The Last Idle Rogue, chryblnd Scribe plays alt/indie/wtf-ery to kick start proceedings.
At 2am -Tallyesin is a Welsh singer-guitarist whose affable charm does not prepare you for such formidable talent. With a polished and classy style, Tally presents mainstream and alternative ballads and he's just. so. good. If your live music experience has been a little disappointing at this time of night - meet the remedy.
At 3am - SaintessLarnia's sultry vocals and sharp songwriting make for a quality entertainment event we have been proud to present at Idle Rogue for many years. Saintess is an Idle Rogue favourite because she's engaging and thoroughly contemporary in style. Her covers come from favourite alternative acts, and her own songs are on point, witty and well put together.
Join as we return to presenting the best of live music in our time zone, and celebrate our 7th birthday Rogue style.

After Dark on Idle Rogue - it's happening

The big announcement today on chryblnd Scribe's blog was that two of live entertainment's favourite venues - Idle Rogue and After Dark - are coming together to form a new community based around their merged interests and styles. That's us!

Both entities will continue to function much as they have, catering to their specific audiences as they have always done, but there are plans to add in new events and expand others. "We think After Dark on Idle Rogue can be the leading live entertainment sim in Second Life," chry says.

" After Dark run a stylish and cool live music venue, where the attention to detail is perfect. They treat their musicians well, establishing productive relationships, nurturing their talent and promoting their endeavours. They treat the fans well, providing a warm and inclusive atmosphere in which to enjoy performances. So for Idle Rogue, this means we get live music run by people who care at the same high standard we do, " Scribe tells her blog audience. "I am beyond excited, and I hope you guys will make yourselves part of the new and vibrant community that can grow around this fusion of music and dance."

She also announced plans to move the "Mayfair" environment, built by Gloriana Maertens, down to ground level as a home for Arrehn Oberlander's Metaharper Interactive Stages. These stages are a "push-button" interactive experience. Professional dancers have taken some of their best-loved works and made them accessible to everyone. You simply select the act you want to take part in, press the panel, and the entire stage set rezzes. Hop on the poseball and wait for the music to begin. This has been a very popular activity on the sim and is expected to grow as people learn what it does. It is currently housed in the Acuo Theatre, but will be permanently housed and expanded in coming months.

"What we are doing on Idle Rogue - with the generous help of Meegan Danitz and Arrehn Oberlander - is consolidating the resources of three separate entities. While the Metaharpers are a separate and very well-defined group, with their own set of interests, many of them are an integral and valued part of the Idle Rogue ecosystem. We hope the same will prove true for the After Dark community," Chryblnd Scribe says, noting that the Metaharpers intend to maintain their current grid presence. "We think exciting times are ahead, as we build a strong and really dynamic sim that benefits everyone attached to it."

After Dark will start operating from Idle Rogue as of April 20th.

Dates announced for Le Cirque de Nuit at Idle Rogue!

After months of careful preparation, Idle Rogue's Le Cirque de Nuit debuts on April 6, with a special performance for the Guerilla Burlesque Exclusive group at 4pm, followed by a General Admission Performance at 7pm.
The show is tour-de-force virtual entertainment. Loosely referencing Erin Morgenstern's novel "The Night Circus", builder Gloriana Maertens has created a magical circus environment in the sky above Idle Rogue. From the moment you arrive, you feel the shimmering in the air, and the enchantment begins.
As you take your seat, we will assume control of your camera and embark together on a sparkling journey, of shadows and light, sounds and visions, astonishment and delight.
A collaborative experience, Le Cirque de Nuit has been crafted by some of the best performers and builders in SL at the height of their careers. It's a black and white steampunk extravaganza that features clever concepts woven together by an extremely professional team. Produced by Chryblnd Scribe, with a stage scripted and managed by Arrehn Oberlander, you will witness thrilling performances by dancers who have honed their skills in the great troupes of our time.

Auditions opening for a new Idle Rogue production!

Produced by Guerilla Burlesque (SL) and Idle Rogue, Le Cirque de Nuit will be a brand new concept show based very loosely on Erin Morgenstern's novel, The Night Circus.
We will be auditioning acts for this production, scheduled to open late January, and we encourage potential dancers to submit a concept for audition as follows:

  • Your act must be suitable for a Victorian or steampunk circus, and should focus on magical, illusion and/or exotic. We will consider dance acts, but we also want illusionists, acrobats, contortionists, animal tamers, trapeze artists and similar
  • Your act must be set and costumed entirely in black, white, and grey. You can use any flesh, black, white, or grey skin, and any hair colour. Props including animals should be within the colour palette. Avatars, costumes, props and equipment must be of very high quality and realism.
  • You must be willing to work with the production team to ensure your act is of very high quality, including preferably allowing the staging team to rez your sets and equipment to ensure a tight and fast flowing production.

IMPORTANT: Please do not purchase or build equipment for this production until your audition has been approved.

Additionally, please note that we are not seeking to recreate The Night Circus, and will not be filling roles from the book. This production is an homage that imagines if that circus existed and how it would play, but you do not need to have read the book to participate.

You can present your concept by notecard to Chryblnd Scribe inworld or Word document attached to email - idlerogue@gmail.com. Please include links to music and costumes and a short description of what your act would be and what (if any) experience you have had with dance entertainment in the virtual world of Second Life.

Please submit your concept by December 13th, 2013,and be ready to audition on or around December 28th.

These auditions are open to any Second Life Resident as invited by our selection panel, and their decision will be final.

We are very keen to encourage auditions from across the grid. Please contact chryblnd Scribe by email - idlerogue@gmail.com - or inworld IM if you have any queries, our plan is to help as much as possible so that we get the very best acts for this production.

We have an FAQ notecard, some costume ideas and more information available inworld on request. Please do not send offline IMs, use notecards or email to avoid your message being lost.

Idle Rogue Sky Village 2013 (a set on Flickr)
Opening May 15th with a concert event featuring Tukso Okey and Dragonfly, Idle Rogue's Sky Village is a consolidation of various workspaces that had been scattered throughout the sky.
Creator and Designer Shippy Creations worked with chryblnd Scribe to realise a fantasy village, part Metrica Province, part Pandora and with a dash of Westeros.
The village houses builder platform, photo studio, and rehearsal stages for Guerilla Burlesque as well as an office for Idle Rogue productions and a spectacular ballroom originally designed for Jordan Reyne.
Stepping stone paths join several of the sky islands, while others float independent and provise quiet contemplative areas. The entire village is intended to combine the Idle Rogue's love of pretty things with functional and elegant working platforms.

Live Music kickoff for 2013

Idle Rogue is pleased to announce we are resuming our live music calendar for 2013, commencing with Saintess Larnia at 2am on Friday January 25th. We are also looking forward to Jordan Reyne's return on February 2nd. DeepSky Timeless will resume his immersive stage productions in February, and we are negotiating with all the favourites to get them back for your entertainment.

We are currently talking to sponsors who are interested in donating to support the live music program, and are also seeking information from Idle Rogue residents, followers and group members  about the kind of musicians you are interested in having perform.

If you are thinking of suggesting live musicians, please keep the following in mind:
  • We are an alternative music venue. We prefer original music from most genres. We do book very high quality cover artists who do alternative material, and DJs, stage productions and tribute shows are other facets of our operations
  • Management has final say on performers booked for Idle Rogue and quality is absolutely a factor
  •  Anonymous donations towards fees can be paid to avatar Saturday Melody
We are also very interested in sourcing a dance/trance/dnb DJ for a specific project. Alternative and indie DJs who are interested in building up a regular event are also encouraged to contact chryblnd Scribe.

Finally we are very saddened to announce that we have been unable to find a coordinator for the New Resident Village program. It's not too late to enquire about running this project, but it is very likely we will close this program down if there really is no-one with time to manage it.

Please contact chryblnd Scribe if you wish to enquire about anything Rogue, or email us at idlerogue@gmail.com

Guest Post - Azabella Alamar: That Moment

ChryBlonde Scribe - captured by Chewie Quixote

**Cross referenced fromAzzy's Place**

You've had a long day at work, your feet ache...not to mention  your eyes are tired of staring at the computer screen for hours on end. You've decided to go out tonight, enjoy some free time, after all it is the weekend. Clubbing is fun the first few times you go after that it's the same thing. Giggly DJ's, some that like to talk over the songs, especially the ones you love. So, mentally you've crossed that off your list of things to do tonight. Then a friend mentions going to a show. The idea teases at you for a moment, as  you imagine the screen with the same ole hmmm huh movies. Then your friend ends up nudging you and saying no, not a movie, but a live show. Your ears perk even more at the sound of this, now your friend has your full attention. A dance show you say, from there your friend grabs you by the hand and drags you with them on the "limo" that was sent to pick them up....

Reaching the theater you're looking around, everyone is dressed top notch, from gowns to tuxes, which of course makes you look down at yourself to make sure you won't stand out too much. Deciding you look decent enough you are promptly greeted with a "welcome" by the hostess. Looking up at her you know this will be something different than the usual drone show. She has that sparkle of excitement in her eyes and the stunning smile to go with it. Nodding in return at the hostess and giving her a shy smile you sit down and wait for the show to start. As you listen to the chatter around, you can see the playful banter from the regulars towards one another and can't help but to giggle at some of the remarks yourself. You can see the flutter of the curtain as the dancer behind is trying to make any last minute adjustments to their sets, you start to feel the excitement of the theater build as the time draws close to starting...

Just at that moment the DJ cues up the intro, and a stunning strawberry blonde stands in front of the stage, taking the mic as the music plays she announces, "Welcome to Guerilla Burlesque"... as she speaks your head tilts and you listen intently to what she is saying. Glancing at the gold urns on either side of her a moment then back on her as she finishes her opening speech. You watch her as she moves away from the mic and back to her seat and the intro song ends. You see the curtain start to raise as the next song starts and you're instantly mesmerized....

This is how I felt the first time I tp'ed to Idle Rogue. I was shy, quiet though I didn't have a friend to tp me to the show, I imagined this is how it would have felt. I was drawn into each and every act that night and felt the rush of the crowd around me. I decided that, I wanted to do the same thing. I knew I could figure out how to do things in SL, after all my first Guerilla Burlesque show I attended was only two days new to Second Life. I didn't own a dance, let alone know how to build. But that draw of the dance was strong. Hanging around for a few weeks Diawa decided that she was going to get to know this quiet stranger that refused to "touch my butt" at her simple demand. She was gracious enough to show me some of the ins and outs of dancing and we worked hard together to put together an hour long Halloween show.  I'll be honest, we worked ourselves to the point of exhaustion...how we did the show is beyond me. But, in her eyes that was the biggest train wreck of her dancing career. For me, it was the doorway to prove we could do better and I pushed myself after that show to prove it.

Now, I'm that dancer sweating behind the curtain, palms sweaty, heart racing and praying that everything goes as perfect as planned. So far, I've been lucky and only had one act that didn't go as planned. And, it's OK it didn't. I wasn't upset, I knew from Diawa, that this was going to happen at some point. She made sure that I learned the hard lesson long before the rewards...dancing is more than just the song and costume choice...not to mention the set. It's an outlet and expression for that person's interpretation of the song they chose. Sometimes the meaning is hidden and if you look close enough and listen to the words of the song, the concept will light up brighter than the sun....this is why I dance...complete and utter expression...and with that I'll leave you to your thoughts and hope to see you at the next show...

Guerilla Burlesque 2012

Guerilla Burlesque ... your party just got dirty

Inspired by a competition for the cover of BOSL magazine, the divas of Guerilla Burlesque were a-flurry last week for a photo shoot with astonishing photographer Graham Collinson. Graham works entirely within SL - no post-processing, no photoshop at all, and you can see the results, and the reason for our excitement, in his video.

Graham took a number of really beautiful photographs, and this one was chosen as the new promo shot (a small amount of post-processing by chry with Graham's approval). A framed version has been sent out to the Idle Rogue group and subscription list, and you can still get the 2011 promo "They're Coming ..." on the notecard contained in the new version.

or, indeed, you could download it right here :-)
Diva Kiriam McIntyre very generously invited us to use her stunning home for the photo shoot, and this first release, "Party Dirty" was shot in Kiri and Max's atrium. Kiri also built the dressing room set you will see in other photos, which will be released over coming weeks.

Guerilla Burlesque have exciting plans to expand their interactions with their fanbase over the coming months, and you are encouraged to join the Idle Rogue inworld group or the subscription list to keep up-to-date with the dynamic divas. You can also join us on Facebook as we build momentum into 2012.

Guerilla Burlesque perform a weekly dance revue in their purpose-built theatre at Idle Rogue. Doors open at 11:45pm for a midnight start, every Friday.

Masquerade Ball to open new Guerilla Burlesque Theatre

Guerilla Burlesque will be opening a brand new club build on September 9th, and are celebrating with a MASQUERADE BALL. The event will run for two hours, from 11pm, and will feature special acts from all your favourtie divas, as well as prizes and dancing to the tunestyles of Curti5 Rexen.

We would especially like to spend some time with you all, and thank you for the marvellous support you have given us. Guerilla Burlesque is performing to a regular crowd of 40+ avatars every week now, and this is in no small way due to those who have posted about us, shared photographs from the show, and invited their friends to come and see what we do.

The new building was purpose designed to be the showcase venue on Idle Rogue, and as a fitting home for the brilliant and dynamic dance team. Built by ShippyCreations Resident, with the occasional shinkick from me, we hope you will enjoy our fusion of steampunk and industrial elements. The building will be moved into place on the ground at Idle Rogue this week, and you are invited to call by and explore it at your leisure.

Meanwhile ... a masquerade ball! Squeee!
